Knowing that Plasma TVs will be gone next year, I decided to buy one. It's a Samsung PN60F5300 60-Inch 1080p 600Hz Plasma HDTV. LCD can go to hell. I hate the light bleeding and bad contrast of an LCD.

Kinja'd!!!

Left is LCD and right is Plasma. Plasma offers true blacks as every pixel can turn off, similar to OLED technology.

Kinja'd!!!

Blacks in LCDs are a joke.

Because people are ignorant. And they suck under light, so they don't look as good as LCDs on the stores.

great choice! I actually got a 51" Samsung plasma a few months back and all my friends thought I was an idiot. It looks so amazing in my cavelike room (blackout shades on the Windows) it was the best idea I had

So it's just a market thing, like people aren't buying them? I was wondering if there was some anti–plasma legislation or something.

Also, plasmas are the shit. My parents have one, and even in a very well lit room it's not bad. It's just the ridiculously over–illuminated stores. So you're right, people are ignorant.

What I cant deal with regarding plasma. The amount of heat they make! I'm fine with lcd but honestly don't care enough to differentiate the difference but I do know our last LG plasma made so much heat we changed an ac duct from 6 inch to 8 inch trying to fight it but never won the battle. Had to put it to pasture and grab an lcd. Between the plasma and the other electronics in the TV room we would be baking by the end of a movie. You could almost burn your hand on the top of the tv. Furthermore I assume more heat would equal more power consumption but never bothered to check.

My eyes are sensitive to dithering so plasmas aren't for me. The only plasmas that didn't have much visible dithering were Pioneer Kuros I used to sell at Bestbuy when I was in HS.

To be fair more modern plasmas don't produce that much heat and the power consumption while being slightly higher probably equals an extra $10 a year.

Ever since I discovered about OLED and how every pixel can light up, I became very interested in that type of technology. Currently OLED is expensive as hell, so I started making more research and found out that the "old" plasma TVs could do the same thing. After experiencing OLED and plasma, now every dark scene on any of my monitors looks absolutely disgusting. That includes a 15 inch IPS retina MBP, 27 inch H-IPS HP ZR2740w, and IPS Surface Pro. Really looking forward to seeing the plasma TV in full darkness.

I am rocking a Pioneer Elite Plasma and it kicks ass...but it puts out so much heat that the hookers sweat all over my mirror and screw up my lines of desert

In all seriousness, why cant all TVs have the inputs and control that this Elite has?

Figured so but ours was brutal. No joke 15-25 degrees hotter in the room when we watched a movie. Went to lcd a sony bravia 52" at the time and temp never budged again not to mention the lg just plan sucked.. pixel loss, strange red bars and white spots appeared constantly.

Plasmas kick ass! I didn't know they were killing them. Shame that.

I still have the 42" Samsung Tantus I bought back in 2002.

From what I've read, you got one of the best plasmas ever produced. Hell, it even says black on the name of the TV. What inputs are you talking about?

I would agree but I run a little hot as it is (the booze does it). Seriously between black out shades and modifying a perfectly good HVAC system and then selling it at a major loss because no one wanted it I just have a bad taste when it comes to plasma. I even liked my oldest hd tv a 50" sony sxrd better and that was a noisy rear projection. Rereading all this now and feel bad I'm not meaning to shit on your parade and I'm sure the heat deal is drastically better than 4-5 years ago and when all the conditions were right it was a beautiful picture. Have fun with it 60's are awsome:)

I believe it. Only in the past 3-4 years or so have they really made improvements on the heat front.

I have a Samsung 59" Plasma. I forget if it's 1080P or not. I bought it a few years ago.

I love it. It was cheaper than LCDs and way better picture quality.

In addition to LCDs having crap blacks the motion can be bad too during live sporting events.

I'm guessing the higher end OLEDs are way better than LCD. I've never researched it because plasma was good enough for me and I wasn't going to spend way more for some other tech.

I have been breaking in my new plasma for 3 days straight, without turning it off. It doesn't generate any heat at all. When you touch the back part of the screen it is cold to the touch. They have certainly come a long way.
